Out of Bounds (Rule 17-1)
1.1 Beyond any fence bounding the golf course.
Note: The stakes are Immovable Obstructions.
2. Abnormal Ground Condition (Rule 16)
2.1 Those areas marked with white stakes and/or white lines or designated with appropriate
GUR signs are to be treated as ground under repair and relief may be taken in accordance
with the procedure in Rule 16-1. Note: The stakes are Immovable Obstructions.
2.2 Tractor tyre marks (except those in a Penalty Area) are to be treated as GUR. Relief may
be taken in accordance with the procedure in Rule 16-1.
2.3 Bull Ant Nests are deemed to be ground under repair.
3. Staked Trees or Shrubs
If a staked tree, staked shrub interferes with a player’s stance or area of his intended swing, the
ball must be lifted without penalty and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in
Rule 17-1d (Immovable Obstruction). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.
Note: The stakes are Immovable Obstructions.
4. Penalty Areas (Rule 17)
4.1 Penalty Areas defined by yellow stakes. Relief procedure Rule 17-1d.
4.2 Penalty Areas defined by red stakes. Relief procedure Rule 17-1d.
As an additional option on the 5th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes a player may drop a ball in the
dropping zone nearest to where the original ball lay.
Note:
1. The dropping zone may be nearer to the hole than where the original ball lay.
2. If a ball is dropped in a Dropping Zone, It must comply with rule 14.3 Dropping Ball in
Relief Area. The ball must come to rest within the relief area Rule 14.3c.
Note: The stakes are Immovable Obstructions.
5. Preferred Lies
All fairways are defined by the poison line.
A ball lying on the fairway being played may, without penalty, be moved or may be lifted,
cleaned and placed within ONE CARD LENGTH of where it originally lay but not nearer the hole
and not in a hazard or on a putting green. A player may move or place his ball once and after the
ball has been so moved or placed, it is in play.
Note – The grass mounds in the 2nd and 8th Fairways are NOT part of the fairway and the ball
must be played as it lies.
6. Kangaroo Paws
If a kangaroo paw interferes with a player’s stance or area of his intended swing, the ball must be
lifted without penalty and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 17-1d
(Immovable Obstruction). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.
7. Immovable Obstructions – Clubhouse / Carpark
If a ball comes to rest in the carpark or clubhouse beyond –
a) The white line and copper logs on the right hand side of the 9th green.
b) The copper logs and inner edge of the paved area in front of the clubhouse.
The player may take relief, without penalty, under Rule 17-1d or as an additional option drop a
ball in the dropping zone nearest to where the original ball lay.
Notes:
- 1. The dropping zone may be nearer to the hole than where the original ball lay.
- 2. If a ball is dropped in a Dropping Zone, It must comply with rule 14.3 Dropping Ball
in Relief Area. The ball must come to rest within the relief area Rule 14.3c.
8. Immovable Obstruction – Hedge & Garden Bed 2nd and 6th Tee Box
If a ball comes to rest in the garden bed around the hedge between the 2nd and 6th Tee Boxes.
The player may take relief, without penalty, under Rule 17-1d. (Immovable Obstruction)
9. Fairway Line – other than hole being played
If a player’s ball comes to rest in a fairway marking line on a fairway other than the fairway being
played, the player may drop out of said line, within 1 club length not nearer to the hole.
10. Temporary Local Rules
In addition to the above permanent local rules, temporary local rules may be in effect at any
time. They will be displayed on a notice board as and when they are deemed appropriate by the
Match Committee. Examples of temporary rules may be such things as fire-breaks, fairway
renovations, and embedded balls in other than closely-mown areas during winter. Please check
the notice board for temporary local rules.
Penalty for Breach of Local Rules
Stroke Play – 2 strokes.
Match Play – loss of hole
The Yellow, Blue and Red posts on the edge of the fairways indicate that the distance from that post to
the centre of the green is 200 metres (Yellow), 150 metres (Blue) and 100 metres (Red). The Posts are
immovable obstructions.
